Information For Clinicians

Good health is important for everyone. At OPWDD, we are committed to helping individuals with disabilities to achieve and maintain opportunities to live healthier lives.

Health Services is responsible for overseeing the quality of health care services in programs operated or funded by OPWDD, and for spearheading the design and dissemination of innovative strategies for the provision of high quality health care services for NYS residents with a developmental disability.

Health Services provides project development, enterprise services, and advisement to all levels of OPWDD’s administration and offers extensive training, consultation and technical assistance to the Developmental Disabilities Service Offices (DDSO) and the voluntary agency sector in the areas of nursing, medicine, dentistry, medication (including medication administration), infection control and health care services.

The Health Services Resource Center is designed to provide information related to health services at OPWDD and in doing so, help to enhance quality health care practices. Here, organized in one place, you will find information on key nursing and health issues. OPWDD will continue to update these pages as new information becomes available, and will add new topics as needed to meet the ever-changing needs of nurses, doctors, other health professionals, families, advocates and others interested in the health and wellness of persons with developmental disabilities .
